Weekly classes

> Currently it is possible to register for a short series of 5 classes as of 29/5/2023, in groups where there are still places available.

We propose regular weekly classes from September to June at La Tangueria (Simonis) en La Luna (Antwerp). Except for the beginners‘ classes, that are proposed in shorter cycles of classes of 70 minutes to learn the basics of tango, the weekly classes from levels 1B till 6 are organised in series of minimum 14 classes of 80 minutes, in 2 semesters. The first semester is subdivided as follows:

• theme of classes 1 till 5 and 11 till15: tango
• theme of classes 6 till 10: vals porteño and milonga

Levels proposed in La Tangueria

La Tangueria proposes no less then 7 different levels of classes, so everybody can fit in a group that corresponds to his/her dancing experience.
For those who already have a background in dance, theatre, circus, etc. it is possible to start in Level 1A, where the basics are taught faster and with more improvisation tools.
For the most advanced tango dancers with more then 7 years tango experience, as well as for (future) teachers , La Tangueria proposes the only Level 6 in the country, where even expert tangonautes can continue to evolve at the highest level, taking advantage of Marisa and Oliver’s personal experience of studying with the greatest maestro’s since the nineties, and of teaching, performing and dancing for over 25 years.

Missed classes & replacements

Missed classes are not reimbursed, but can be caught up during the period of validity of the subscription (bimonthly, quarterly or half-yearly).
> Missed classes can be caught up by the registered couple, or by one of the 2 dancers, with another partner. The replacing partner does not necessarily have to be registered for a weekly class in La Tangueria.
> If an absent dancer is replaced by (and thus cedes his/her place to) another partner, the absent dancer renounces the right to make up the class him/herself.
> Missed classes can be caught up in another group of the same or a lower level, but not in a higher level.
> The repetition classes (last class of a series of 5 or 6) may not be used as a catch-up lesson in a group of another level.

Prices of the classes

COVID-19 The successive partial and total lockdowns due to the health crisis hit La Tangueria hard. The recovery is fragile and slow, and there are still 30% less students as compared to  2019. > Keep dancing and learning tango in one (or more) classes in  La Tangueria, as this is the biggest support you can give us! However, participants to our classes and events who have not lost their salaries, can choose for a post-Covid solidarity subscription for the classes and pay a little extra for the subscription (for example pay 220€ instead of 200€ for the semester).

La Tangueria

• Standard package: 15 lessons of 80 minutes at the price of 200€ per person, or if you can and want to give a little extra for a post-Covid solidarity subscription.
• Shorter series of 5 lessons of 80 minutes at the price of 80€ per person. Registration possible short before start, in groups where there are still places available.
• Students under 25 years: -20%
• 2nd weekly class in the same or a lower level (subject to availability): – 20%; 3rd weekly class: -35%; 4th weekly class: -50%; as of the 5th weekly class: free
• Late entry and shorter series: –10€ pp per lesson less.
• Absolute beginners Level 1 weekly classes: first series of 6 initiation classes of 70 minutes for 75€ pp. For the series level 1 + 1A the reduced price for 12 classes of 70 minutes paid at the start  is 140€ pp.
• Absolute beginners Level 1 Sunday: first series of 8  initiation classes of 120 minutes for 180€ pp (classes of 2 hours).

La Luna:

• Standard package: 17 lessons of 90 minutes at the price of 255€ per person, or if you can and want to give a little extra for a post-Covid solidarity subscription.
• Late entry and shorter series: –10€ pp per lesson less.

Técnica

Since September 2021, the técnica sessions have been suppressed, and the exercises for posture, balance and axis, refinement, footwork, dissociation/association, musicality,  rhythmic and speed, but also on connection, leading and following, etc. have been integrated in the classes. Specific Técnica workshops can be organised every now and then according to the request from the students. A group of 3 to 6  couples can ask for specific Semi-private coachings to work on aimed movements or techniques.

> During the lockdown in early 2021, Marisa and Oliver created a series of 6 lessons “Técnica y musicalidad online“. This can still be ordered at info@tangueria.be (42€ pp, 6 digital lessons of 45/60 minutes).

Practica

To improve the learning process, it is recommended to review the content of the classes in order to assimilate, digest and integrate it into your repertory. On Monday and Thursday as of 19:00, while there are classes downstairs, the free practica welcomes the students who want to exercise in the room upstairs of La Tangueria.

Practical information

• Classes in La Luna are taught in Dutch. Registrations are to be made via www.tangolaluna.be and payment is due in cash on the first day.
• Classes in La Tangueria are taught in English and/or French. Registrations have to be made via our online form and payments can be done upfront by bank transfer or the first day in cash. We don’t accept cheques, credit or bank cards.
• The first semester runs from September till February. Registrations start on 10 August.
• The second semester goes from February till June. Students of the first semester have a priority to register in the follow-up of their group. Newcomers can register as of 10 January.
• At first it is possible to register for one level only, and an option can be taken as of the 2nd class. In the groups where there are places left, students can register as of about 10 days before start of the term for extra weekly classes.
• It takes 2 to tango, so you need to register with a partner. We can help you find one via our Facebook group and the partner form.
• La Tangueria also disposes of a limited number of taxi dancers. These advanced students are available to follow an extra class per week with a single student in a lower level. The student  pays for the taxi dancer’s classes (at a reduced price).
